What makes GayWhistler's WinterPRIDE different than some of the other Gay Ski Weeks?

Festival

GayWhistler's WinterPRIDE is a festival and will be celebrating its 19th anniversary Feb. 1-6, 2011.

A festival means that there is many more programming elements than just skiing and the après ski events.

We have many different experiences for our guests to choose from.

  • Sports Experience: Skiing/snowboarding, canopy tours (flying through snow covered trees on a series of zip lines),dog sled tours, snowmobile tours, Nordic/cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and even winter river float trips to see American Bald Eagles.
  • Culinary Experience: Learn how to cook, mixology programs, winemaker dinners and having fun with food like the Singles & Sex Food event. Health & Wellness Experience: Yoga retreats, massage courses, mental health & well being seminars, sex toy demonstrations, etc.
  • And finally the Entertainment Experience: This is the comedy show, early evening dance parties, martini parties, MountainTOP dance and Snowball dance 'til dawn party and of course the Chicalious Women's party!

The Resort

The resort municipality of Whistler is just down right fabulous. The village has a very temperate winter with the average high temperature in February of just +3C (37F) and alpine temperate of approx. -5C (23F) so playing in the mountain resort is very comfortable. Also, the village is just at 2,000 feet above sea level and the alpine is at 7,300 feet so doing activities (including drinking) does not knock the wind out of you especially if you are coming from New York or LA where you are use to sea level altitudes!

The mountain averages over 33 feet a year in annual snowfall. February we usually have a mid-mountain base of 254cm (100 inches) with approximately 112 cm (44 inches) of fresh powder to explore on 8,171 acres of pure skiing bliss - that is over 200 ski trails, 5 parks, 1 pipe, 1 super pipe, 3 glaciers and 5 alpine bowls! The longest ski runs are just over 11km (7 miles) but, if that is not enough mountain to whet your appetite, then we have over 1 million acres of heli & cat skiing/riding for you to explore in the backcountry.

New this year is the much anticipated and dreamt of Peak 2 Peak Gondola - an engineering marvel that shatters world record books. This epic gondola unites the two mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb. United in just 11 minutes as the gondola races the 4.4 km (2.73 miles) journey with an astonishing 3.024 km unsupported span reaching a dizzying height of 436 m (1430 feet) - now you can have "freshies" on Whistler Bowl and race over and shred it up on Seventh Heaven all before noon!

You can also book directly - at no additional cost - via RainbowTourism.com. Rainbow Concierge Dee has recently visited Whistler to get the dee-tails of this event. Contact her with your questions.
