Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon Myanmar

Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon Myanmar

Long sealed in a sort of time capsule, Myanmar (Burma) is one of the last truly authentic places in Southeast Asia.  No KFC, Starbucks or Golden Arches. Few mobile phones and very little internet access.

All of this is changing since the gates were opened, which is why Myanmar is high on our list of places to visit sooner rather than later.

There are 135 national races with their colourful costumes and customs, traditional arts and crafts – all make Myanmar the most exotic and fascinating destination in Asia. Myanmar lies on the crossroads of two of the world’s great civilizations China and India – but it culture is neither that of India nor that of China exclusively, but a blend of both interspersed with Myanmar native traits and characteristics.

Buddhism has greatly influence on the daily lives of Myanmar. The people have preserved the tradition of close family ties, respect for elders, reverence for Buddhism and simple native dress.

Myanmar

Known to most travelers as the Golden Land, or Mystical Myanmar, the Republic of Myanmar is rich in cultures and natural attractions, with a population of over nearly 50 million. It borders with Bangladesh, India, China, Laos and Thailand.

Myanmar Celebrates Its Gayness

Last year, the first ever LGBT-targeted programme appeared in Burmese on “Colours Rainbow TV; a documentary about the transgender day of remembrance ceremony organized by the Burmese LGBT community.

Recent LGBT visitors say they have found gay-welcoming bars and discos in Yangon.  They suggest  you explore with experts and local guides, and ask around for good ones and or ones who are out about being gay if that’s important.
