Bay of Islands area is heart of Northland Region

Northland – the Northern most region of New Zealand – is well known for its beaches and rugged beauty. The region is also known as the “Winterless North” because of its long hours of sunshine, subtropical seasons, and being home to the stunningly beautiful Bay of Islands.

The major commercial centre of the Northland region is the city of Whangarei, with the Bay of Islands made up of the small towns Paihia, Kerikeri and Russell. Gay in the Bay is a social group for all queer folk, either living in or visiting Northland and the Bay of Islands. It meets on a monthly basis for assorted activities.

Further north is the stunning ninety mile beach (actually 55 miles or 88 km) and at the tip of the North Island Cape Reinga (Te Rerenga Wairua)
