Newtown

World > Australia > NSW > Sydney and Surrounds > Sydney City > Newtown

Colourful, unconventional and gay-friendly, Newtown promotes its strong arts culture with many theatre and music venues.

It also boasts more than 100 ethnic restaurants and eclectic cafés offering a range of cuisines (Thai, Vietnamese, Indian notably) most at reasonable prices.

Worth the 20 min. train ride from Circular Quay at Sydney Harbour if you want to see where the locals go.

Hip bars like Coopers, the Marly and Bank Hotel where women gather on Wednesday nights for DJ music and eye candy. It’s a real melting pot and a favourite place to shop for vintage clothing, used furniture and books.
